随不能至，心向往之。我曾经是余秋雨先生的崇拜者，尤其是他的《文化苦旅》对我影响很深。当时虽然不能完全读懂，但是似懂非懂的感觉让我对他的文字充满了兴趣。对他本人也充满了敬意。

后来，看到《借我一生》的时候，已经能够读懂他的作品，因而也对他充满了兴趣。见到他的时候，更感觉到一种高山仰止的感觉。因此，我用镜头纪录了他的一些片段。

一个美国社区

这是我的朋友陈小枚拍摄的一个美国社区的故事。目前，她的这个专题还在进行中，这是其中的一部分。通过她的视觉感受，让我们看看美国的社区。同时，通过她的镜头以及那些镜头语言，折射着她对美国社区的理解……

目前，陈小枚在美国学习摄影。

I've always wanted to do a story about Federal Boulevard of Denver
since I first visited the area. It is a low-income neighborhood. The
majority of the population is Hispanic, many of whom are illegal
immigrants from Mexico. This is also an area (within Colorado) with
the most Asian immigrants, mostly Vietnamese, some Korean and some
Chinese. But Hispanic culture is dominant here.

I have been asking myself why I want to do the story. After such a
long time since my first visit and after over 40 days' shooting and
living there, I find that it's really no more than a personal
adventure. I don't even care whether the pix will be published or not
despite the time (from mid March to early August) and the money I put
in the project. It's just an adventure, one that makes me desire to
keep both written and visual diaries.

I am impressed by the lives being lived there. They are different!
Different from mine, from what I and many other Chinese people's
imaginations about the U.S., and from the lives of some other American
people that I know or know of.

I am often shocked and upset by what I see in this neighborhood.
Sometimes I get angry. And of course I am curious, too. Why do they
want do pierce and tattoo their bodies - sometimes all over their
bodies? How did a 28-year-old woman become a single mother of eight
kids, with the oldest 15 years old? Why do the cops and the residents
never trust, even hate each other here...There are many whys.
Obviously, by asking these questions, I show my naivety. People here
often laugh at my naive questions, quite friendly, though. And with
some amused laughs, they would say, "why ask so many questions?" Yet I
keep asking. But I don't really think I have got the answers, though
it's quite "convenient" to apply some anthropological theories to
explain what I've seen here.

Any way, I am intrigued by the people and their lives here. I try to
get general scenes of the area, but I want to have more in-depth
sub-stories: Single parents; Police activities (this district has the
biggest police staff in Denver and police sirens never stop); Church
activities; House of Pain (tattooing and piercing); Success story:
Nursing Home; Bars; Alcoholics; weddings and funerals... There's a
lot. Hope I can get things done as planned by August. But I know even
if I stay here for two years or longer, there are still stories to be
photographed.
